Signs everywhere saying unattended cars will be towed, plus a person on a loop saying not to, and the fleet of tow trucks as you make the turn into the pick up/drop off areas should be big fucking hints that this would happen... and yet it constantly happens

187

u/Beneficial_Bit_6435 14h ago

People either cannot read, or dont care enough. They need to take responsibility for their action, otherwise won’t learn

155

u/shaithiswampir 14h ago

They don’t care and think rules do not apply to them. For some reason once people arrive at an airport common sense leaves them. Glad I don’t deal with that shit anymore.

76

u/rosstedfordkendall 14h ago

Not just airports. I watch a couple of towing channels on YouTube, and people who park their car where they not supposed to park are everywhere. One channel is in a tourist trap town that seems to attract the most entitled people on the planet.

45

u/xXmehoyminoyXx 13h ago

What channels?? Seeing narcissistic morons get theirs is my favorite.

13

u/Alex17hd 12h ago

I used to love repo ninja but he stopped making videos. He is from Utah.

11

u/ZealousidealDepth223 11h ago

I used to watch a guy named reponut who drove a repo ninja unsure if it’s the same guy but the one I’m thinking of had a massive fall off after his wife passed, got into some bad stuff.

13

u/A-Giant-Blue-Moose 11h ago

Yeah he ended up going to prison and then rehab. I've read that he's getting his life back together. Losing his wife definitely broke him. Can't say I blame him.

4

u/Alex17hd 11h ago

That's the guy! It's a shame how life turns on you. He put something out in his videos talking about what he says happened but It's been so long that I don't remember

221 Newman Rd. in Gatlinburg! The ID needs to match the registration and the cost is (redacted) to that owner, and it must be cash.

Always baffled me when people abuse parking enforcement officers or tow truck drivers, like YOU are the one who ignored the signs, they are just doing their job.

Not sure where you live but a yard sale makes people lose common sense as well. I have almost gotten hit twice walking the dog by people not paying attention to anything other than the damn yard sale. Or they will just swing the doors on their cars without checking their mirrors to see if a car is coming.

5

u/CompetitionOk2302 12h ago

True. Neighbor's yard sale and someone parks in my driveway; gave them an ear-full.

5

u/Fostbitten27 12h ago

Yeah they don’t gaf where they park or anything but getting to that yard sale!!

I guarantee you the people doing this at an airport are not only doing it at the airport, they're doing it at every fucking store they go to unless there's a parking spot right by the door.

The tow truck driver obviously didn't notice that her park-anywhere lights were flashing, which is why she thought she could park anywhere. "I was only gone a second".

A significant number of drivers think that putting their hazards on means they get an indefinite duration pass on all laws and rules.

6

u/AngryTrunkMonkey 14h ago

Well, they’re telling people how important they are. Flashers indicate the car’s owner is a member of high society and that member should be respected.

I work in a hotel when people are traveling they forget how to read. I put a sign up to use the restroom give for maybe two minutes. I get a guest almost nightly that freaks out that I wasn't at the desk. Ma'am I put up this sign right in front of the computer where you're standing saying that I was assisting another guest. (no reason to tell them I was pissing) well I've been waiting for 30 minutes. No ma'am /checks watch I've been gone for two minutes and that includes this conversation. How can I help you? Where's the coffee? It will be out at 6 am with breakfast. Why isn't there any out now? Well ma'am it's three in the morning we'd just be wasting it if I made coffee this late at night.

I think the assumption is, “I’ll only be gone a few minutes, there’s no way a tow truck can position itself and tow my car before I’m back.” 💀

3

u/PlaquePlague 13h ago

I used to date this girl who would play that game with overnight street parking.  She got towed twice while we were together, and another time we got into her car literally as the tow truck was pulling around the corner to get her.

People assume these things are slow. "There is no way they get here in the time it takes me to be in and out, 10 minutes max." Because they assume someone needs to call and then get dispatched and it takes 2 hours to get a tow when your broken down.

But there is a guy watching a camera who just pushes a button and poof, someone is there 30 seconds later to tow it. Whole thing is done in less then 3.

7

u/WelbyReddit 14h ago

There is typically a person there walking back and forth, shooing people away if they take too long.

But man, to just outright leave the car unattended, not even a driver in there waiting and ready to move or do a loop to keep moving? No sympathy. bye! ;p

I dropped my dad off at the airport and he was in a wheelchair. I stayed with the car and called airport services and someone came out to take him where he needed to go for his flight. I can't think of a reason why you need to leave your car unattended. Airport is great at having people and areas to help people in need. One time I flew with him and the car rental return place drove us to the airport so he didn't have to take the tram. They fast passed us through security, let us ride that little car to get us to the gate, let us board early, and had his wheelchair when we got off the plane. I was really dreading the whole experience but it was fine. Great even.

On one security checkpoint there must have been 5 different signs that tell you to remove your cell phone from your pocket and put it in the bin plus one security screener going down the line telling people they need to remove their cellphone from their pocket and put it in the bin to be x-rayed.

I watched as multiple people go through the metal detector and set it off and they ask if they have anything in their pocket and they say "oh, just my cell phone"

Because they do it all the time, every day, multiple times a day in the city. Double-parking in NYC is practically a birthright. So they think that applies here, too.

My favorite about JFK is seeing people parked on the belt shoulder.

You know there are free cell phone lots?

6

u/spn4eva720 14h ago

And always right next to the (numerous) signs saying No Stopping on the parkway 😂 Gimme a cell phone parking lot over taking my chances parking on the side of the Belt any day 😅

3

u/SkydivingCats 14h ago

I tend to think people parking on the belt are the same people who believe conspiracies, like they think the lots are some sort of trap, or there's some hidden fee or something.  Nope, used to use them all the time.  No fee, no trap.  Just go in, park, wait for the call and go.  Sometimes is a little busy but I never failed to get a spot.

Qualifier:   I haven't used them in a couple of years, so things might have changed, but not likely.

I was pleased that this included seeing people attempting to chase after the tow truck. I'm sure the driver in the third video saw the guy and decided to give no fucks. Great stuff.

3

u/polloconjamon 13h ago

You could make a channel of this, non stop tow aways for idiot drivers, and it could be a moment of blissful zen for whoever watches the stream

4

u/playkateme 12h ago

I lived in the Fenway neighborhood in Boston for a few years. A few neighbors and I would routinely just sit on the steps in front of our building with some drinks and watch car after car get towed on game night.

It was resident only parking (you need a sticker) and an empty tow truck was half a block back, and another tow truck was hooking up a car a block up and you’d still get these idiots in all their Red Sox gear pulling into a spot congratulating themselves as they walked away

As soon as that car was towed out it wouldn’t even be 5 mins before someone else pulled it. One of my favorite memories from living there. We never stuck around to see the owners returning though. My biggest regret..

Every time I've been to an airport, even if just to drop someone off, there are always hordes of transit police, customs police and wreckers. Always. The unloading areas are just for 2-min parking, anything more and they are looking to tow.

There is no parking in the red zone, the white zone is for loading and unloading only.

Of course it's a BMW 🫠

Well deserved

I expect a BMW driver to do that. They also don't like to use their turn signal.

Lazy and entitled people don’t follow rules as it doesn’t apply to them. You see them in grocery store parking lots parked in the red lane right in front of the store when there’s plentiful parking spots to park in. Or when they’re picking up food and inconvenience others because they’re in a rush to deliver food because they’re more important than every one else. Gotta make them learn the rules by applying hefty consequences.

Hanging out outside at JFK departures level is now on my list of must-sees next time I'm in NYC.

Well definitely don't run down the street after your car afterwards.

I have 0 sympathy for anyone thinking they're above the rules that everyone else has to follow

But I've always wondered if there is a better way to handle drop off / pick up at airports.

There's literally always an incredibly long slow moving line to get to the area, there's always people parking in the shoulder to wait (even if there is a cell lot), and there's always people who park in the load zone and just wait in their car. It's incredibly inefficient (or at least it feels that way).

But I suppose the only alternative is parking and walking in (like literally any other establishment) so it is an upgrade in that respect. I wonder how this will be solved in the future.
